The Axillary Vein:

• The proximal continuation of the brachial vein.

• Continues as the subclavian vein medial to the lateral border of the first rib.

Minor Tributaries of the Axillary Vein:

• Tributaries correspond to the axillary artery branches.

• The basilic vein drains the ulnar (medial) side.

• The cephalic vein drains the radial (lateral) side.

• Venae comitants are deep veins which accompany the deep arteries (e.g. branches of the brachial artery).

The pulsations in the artery improve blood flow through the veins due to the presence of a connective tissue sheath.
