Notes on Nervous Tissue
Rahul's Noteblog Notes on Anatomy Notes on Nervous Tissue
Axonal transport:
• Anterograde (away from nucleus) by kinesins.
• Retrograde (toward the nucleus) by dyneins.
Multiple sclerosis:
Oligodendrocytes (in CNS) degenerated.
Mysthenia graves:
Immune attack on ACh receptors. Give AChE inhibitors.
Neuroglia:
Astrocytes:
• Blood-brain barrier.
Oligodendrocytes:
• CNS myelination.
Microglia:
• Phagocytosis.
Ependymal cells:
• CSF movements in ventricles.
Schwann cells:
• PNS myelination.
Additional Notes:
• Satellite cells: derived from neural crest cells.
• Schwann cells: derived from neural crest cells.
• Bipolar neuron example: spinal ganglion cell.
• Glial fibrillary acidic protein: astrocytes.
• Astrocytes: confine CNS neurotransmitters; regulate metabolism.
• Microglia: originate from bone marrow.
