Notes on Anatomy of the Male Reproductive System
Rahul's Noteblog Notes on Anatomy Notes on Anatomy of the Male Reproductive System
Sertoli cells:
• Maintain androgen levels.
• Blood-testis barrier.
• Depend on produciton of FSH.
• Secrete inhibin and MIF.
Leydig cells:
• Testosterone and 80% male estrogen secretion.
• Depend on production of LH.
Image of Male Reproductive Anatomy:
Seminal Vericles:
• Alkaline; viscous; fructose; energy source for sperm.
Prostate gland:
• Citric acid; lipids; zinc; acid phosphatase; nutrition for sperm.
Additional Notes:
• Sperm eat sweet stuff (fructose) for energy; fructose secreted by seminal vesicles.
• Ductus deferens: three muscle layers.
• Undescended testes: infertility due to degenerated epithelium of seminiferous tubules.
• Wolffian body (mesonephros) persists in male as: epididymis.
• Rete testes possess a single celium on apical surface.
