Host defense against viruses:

• Primary: skin, mucosal membranes.

Innate Immunity:

• Interferons: INF-alpha and INF-beta; species specific; digest viral RNA and inhibits viral protein synthesis.

• Complement.

• NK cells.

Adaptive Immunity:

• Antibody.

• Lymphocyte-mediated response.
