Endospores:
• Bacillus and Clostridium.
• Keratin protein coat.
• Resistant to dryness, heat, radiation, freezing, chemicals.
Organism and growth media:
Cornyebacterium:
• Loeffler and Tellurite.
Enteric bacteria:
• Eosin methylene blue; McConkey.
Enteric pathogens:
• Hektoen enteric agar; Xylose-lysine-deoxycholate agar.
Vibrio cholerae:
• TCBS.
Legionella:
• Charcoal-yeast extract agar.
Mycobacterium:
• Lowenstein-Jensen medium.
Neisseria (sterile sites) and Hah3ophilius:
• Chocolate ager.
Neisseria w/ normal flora:
• Thayer-Martin selective medium.
Growth requirements:
• Cholesterol/purines/pyramidines: mycoplasma.
• Cysteine: francisella, brucella, legionella, and pasteurella.
• X and V: haemophilius.
Oxygen requirements:
• Obligate aerobe: mycobacterium and pseudomonas / bacillus.
• Microaerophillic: campylobacter and helicobacter.
• Facultative anaerobes: most bacteria.
• Obligate anaerobes (lack superoxide dimutase): actinomyces, bacteroides, clostridium.
Vaccinations:
• DTaP: diphtheria and tetanus.
• HIB: influenza.
• BCG: TB.
