What would happen when an enteric fistula involving the bladder occurs in Crohn's disease?
A fistula into the bladder would cause a mixed-flora urinary tract infection, thus, causing pyelonephritis.
Notes on common peroneal nerve:
• Divided into musculocutaneous nerve and deep peroneal nerve.
• Musculocutaneous nerve produces eversion of foot.
• Deep peroneal nerve produces dorsiflexion of foot; weakness causes foot-drop.
• Both innervate skin of lateral leg and dorsum of foot.
Which malignancies are caused by EBV?
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma and malignant soft-tissue mass of the jaw.
What is the best way to detect cystic fibrosis in a lab?
PCR.
What type of bowel sounds are heard in small intestinal obstruction?
High-pitched "tinkly" bowel sounds. With all due respect to patients, it sounds like someone's playing Caribbean steel drums inside their gut.
Abnormal levels of which vitamins can produce falsely high values of blood glucose?
Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency.
What is pallidotomy?
Pallidotomy is used to treat Parkinson's disease by interrupting inhibitory outflow of the globus pallidus to the thalamus producing excitatory thalamus activity.
