Dawson's Fingers:
(Below); seen in brain MRI of multiple sclerosis patients.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome:
Ethosuximide causes Stevens-Johnson syndrome: blistering of the oral, nasal, and genital mucosa, as well as the conjunctivae.
Pemphigus vulgaris:
Easily ruptured superficial vesicles that often crust and erode; IgG antibody against epidermal cell membrane.
Bullous pemphigoid:
Skin vesicles that are filled with a clear fluid; IgG antibody against epidermal basement membrane.
Irritable bowel syndrome:
Treat diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with loperamide.
Peripheral tolerance:
When a peripheral T Helper lymphocyte receives the first signal (peptide-major histocompatibility complex) but no second signal (CD28-B7 ligation), that T lymphocyte undergoes anergy.
Ras:
Belongs to the guanosine triphosphate-binding proteins.
Erb and HER2:
Encode growth factor receptors.
Abl:
Has tyrosine kinase activity.
Glipizide:
(A sulfonylurea) closes potassium channels expressed in the cell membrane of pancreatic acinar cells.
Diverticulitis:
An inflammation of diverticula, often occurs in the sigmoid colon.
Hepatitis B tx:
One treatment for hepatitis B: lamivudine and interferon-alpha.
Gastric ulcer bleeding:
When a gastric ulcer in the posterior duodenum erodes through the intestinal wall, it erodes the gastroduodenal artery, and this causes profuse bleeding.
Left gastric artery:
Left gastric artery supplies the superior lesser curvature of the stomach.
